EU must act quickly and decisively to prevent ethnic cleansing in NK and attacks on territory of Armenia - Michael Roth

The EU must act quickly and decisively to prevent ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and any attack on the territory of Armenia, Chairman of the German Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee Michael Roth wrote on his microblog X.
“This is the only language that autocrats like Aliyev understand. The EU needs to put in place a regime of political and economic sanctions as soon as possible in order to return Baku to the negotiating table. I welcome the ceasefire, but it should not be used to displace civilians in Nagorno-Karabakh,” he wrote.
“We must significantly strengthen the EU civilian mission in Armenia to further monitor the entire Armenian-Azerbaijani border and line of contact in order to stabilize the situation and identify possible attacks by Azerbaijan on Armenian territory.
We must support the young but fragile democracy in Armenia and bring it closer to the EU. Ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh may contribute to the downfall of Armenian democracy. Visa liberalization would be a first important step towards rapprochement,” he added.
It comes after Artsakh's information headquarters reported that an agreement was reached between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers on the complete cessation of military operations from 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
It also said that an agreement was reached on the withdrawal of the remaining units and servicemen of the RA Armed Forces from the deployment zone of the Russian peacekeeping troops and the dissolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh armed formations, the complete disarmament of the Defense Army, as well as the withdrawal of heavy equipment and weapons from the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh in order to quickly eliminate them.
In addition, on Thursday, the representatives of Artsakh and Azerbaijan will meet in Yevlakh, a city in Azerbaijan located about 100 km northeast of Stepanakert, and the issues of ensuring the security of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians will be discussed.
