You have a friend and reliable partner in person of US, Samantha Power says in Yerevan

USAID Administrator Samantha Power, addressing Armenia and the Armenian people, stated that the US is a reliable friend and partner.

“We will continue our partnership with the Armenian people in strengthening democracy and ensuring economic development. These attacks can’t threaten the achievements that Armenia has had. I want to praise Prime Minister Pashinyan and the Armenian people for the democratic reforms recorded since 2018,” Power said at a press conference on September 25 in Yerevan.

Speaking about the reforms in Armenia, Power said that the US is committed to supporting the developments. The US supports the development of the anti-corruption court and the investigative committee.

The USAID Administrator said that the US has provided 33 billion dollars to Armenia since 1992.

“Armenia has achieved historic progress in the area of its independence, sovereignty and democracy, and ensuring economic opportunities for its communities and ensuring its rights to live in peace and dignity, which is fundamental. And when Armenia, Armenians, when you continue this path even in conditions of this latest crisis, I want you to know that in person of the United States you have a friend and reliable partner,” Power said.

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power and U.S. State Department Acting Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasian Affairs Yuri Kim arrived in Armenia on September 25 to affirm U.S. support for Armenia’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and democracy and to address humanitarian needs stemming from the recent violence in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Power said that their focus will be on the condition of civilians in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“As USAID, our focus is on ensuring the well-being of civilians. People were unable to get out, they didn’t have access to food and other essentials. This issue is in our focus. By coming here, we’ve found out more about the seriousness of the situation, we were informed about what the people in Nagorno-Karabakh went through,” the USAID chief said, adding that they have called for ensuring unimpeded access to NK.
